Raining In My Negative Thoughts

Um, yeah. That’s a pun alright.

Who doesn’t enjoy a little rainy weather now and then? Well, me, for one. Especially when we say “rainy weather”, which, unlike “rainy afternoon”, implies the potential for eternal drizzle, fog, and toadstools sprouting from the lawn. That’s one reason that I’m going to have to buy a Fuck The Rain Umbrella, pictured left. The other reason being that it’ll look pretty funny in Google Earth photos. All of which reminds me that Winter is like, three days away now. I’m convinced that Winter means “endless season of low-contrast monochrome landscape that makes you want to die” in some ancient tongue. Go ahead. Snowboard. Knock yourself out. As this article on SomethingAwful.com points out, Winter activities all revolve around pretending Winter doesn’t suck. Like sledding: “…a great mixture between excitement, sitting, and being uncomfortably cold and damp. Sort of like losing your virginity…” So, this all highlights the fact that it’s time for my annual cry for help. If I don’t get out of Michigan by November 30, just shoot me if you see me on the street, okay? Alternately, you could donate to the Ian Gray Suicide Prevention Fund. No, that’s not a registered charity to help prevent people from killing themselves, it’s a PayPal account to prevent IAN GRAY from killing himself. All funds will be applied to my relocation, so even if you live in Ann Arbor and hate me, donating would achieve similar results, and be a little easier on my mom. Don’t hate. Donate.

…SuperCain! Able to suspend elections, chat with Katie Couric, save the economy…

…and still take time to vanquish his unworthy debate opponents!

Troubled hair for troubled times…

The recent barrage of political and economic collective psychosis has left me with a touch of Weltschmerz. Which is cool, because I NEVER get to use that word in casual conversation. The state of things has also had me feeling like my head is going to explode though, so much so that I think my already-thinning hair has decided it needs a bailout too. I’ve thought about shaving my head, but I’m pretty sure I’d end up looking like the guy in the movie “Powder”, so I keep that as an absolute last-ditch option. No worries now though, the UK Daily Mail has provided us with a step-by-step guide to the gravity-defying Donald Trump combover. I consider Trump’s combover constructions second only to Wall of Sound genius Phil Spector’s Wall of Hair. I wonder if there’s a German word for “the horror of aging tycoons’ hair”?

I got an e-mail from Trent Reznor this morning. He was curious about how I found out about his recent music, and where I look for interesting new stuff. I answered all his questions, and for my trouble he gave me a free video of a live performance of the song 1,000,000. Pretty cool. We [...]

I got an e-mail from Trent Reznor this morning. He was curious about how I found out about his recent music, and where I look for interesting new stuff. I answered all his questions, and for my trouble he gave me a free video of a live performance of the song 1,000,000. Pretty cool. We haven’t always been on such good terms. I was a big fan of Nine Inch Nails at the beginning. The innovative textures Trent Reznor created in the early nineties, combined with his eff-the-record-label attitude was actually inspirational. I drifted away as a fan somewhere in there though; I had gone through my own morbid nihilistic phase about 15 years before that, and the sheer negativity of his music eventually grew tiresome to me. So tiresome in fact, that one evening some friends of mine and I burned his CD’s on a fireplace just to excorcise my music collection. A little dramatic, but hey. Whatever. NIN has recently brought me back into the fold though, and through simple acts of generosity. First the Ghosts I free download made me aware that NIN was Read the rest of this entry »
