Thursday, December 25th, 2008Because honestly, I got you the same thing as last year…
I’ve already jokingly made my list (no, I don’t expect anyone to buy me a Nikon D80) but all I really want for Christmas is for people to remain hopeful and positive, and to have the strength and peace of mind to always turn adversity into opportunity. Oh, and I certainly don’t mind if you click on some ads now and then… Personally, the last Christmas I really enjoyed was the one in the picture on the left, where I got to wear my Army shirt without some Liberal Elitist yelling at me, and the pile of presents was bigger than me! Peruse the Holiday section if you care about my take on the holidays, but I’d love to know what YOU want for Christmas. Feel free to share a comment.

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008More Collections of Holiday Mashups & Remixes
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser. There’s so much weird Christmas music out there that I wouldn’t begin to try to do a thorough roundup. Besides, they’re working pretty hard on doing that over at MistleTunes, where I ran across such classics-to-be as Pull My Finger by Jingle Smells
. That Amazon link has plenty of audio previews to confirm that even though it’s only $3.98, you don’t need to buy it (though it’s tempting, if only to have a CD laying around that has the title “We Wish You A Smelly Xmas – Unplugged” printed on it). If Christmas mashups are more your thing, djBC and friends now have six years of mashups in their Santastic collections. A lot of it is a little less than well-conceived, but the price is right (free) and where else would you find things like Voicedude’s “It’s The Little Things” (YouTube clip) , which somehow manages to mash Blink 182′s “All the Small Things” with Pachelbel’s Canon, and end up with something listenable? And make sure you have a firm grip on reality before listening to Corporal Blossom’s “White Christmas” Mashup (lo-fi mp3 link), featuring Elvis, Louis Armstrong, Diana Ross, and others surreally dubbed over a downtempo triphop beat. One of my favorite holiday songs ever remains Lenlow’s “¿Dónde Está Santa Claus?” mashup from Santastic II (preview below). And proving that Nine Inch Nails’ lyrics benefit a lot from the production, we have Nine Inch Noëls, a mashup of NIN’s “Head Like Hole” and “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”. And in honor of Santa coming (heh, I said “coming”) we have the hard-to-find Horny Christmas (lo-fi mp3) by Loo and Placido. Here’s the “¿Dónde Está Santa Claus?” preview mentioned above:
Last Minute Shopping?

Not if we have anything to say about it. Here are some Christmas Eve morning distractions to help delay that last trip to the mall. You don’t have any money anyway, which is why the AIG Executive Catcher (Thanks, Scott) is so gratifying, in spite of the fact that all you do is grab AIG executives with a big claw. In the same vein, if you’ve been working your butt off and are still broke this holiday season, you’ll quickly understand Karoshi Suicide Salaryman (Karoshi is Japanese for “death from overwork”, if I’m not mistaken). On a more cheerful note, bet you can’t name all of Santa’s reindeer in under two minutes. No points for the one pictured here. Totally unrelated to the holidays, we have this annoying game, in which the only object is to not touch the edges. Harder than it looks. Or for those of you who actually like using your brain, why not try being an air traffic controller. The learning curve on that was longer than five minutes, so I just let a couple planes collide and moved on. And lastly: Think about clicking on some ads or on that “Donate” button in the upper right of every page. Or if you’re still hell-bent on shopping, just sit still for another minute and buy me something from the ever-annoying Amazon Wish List. We’ll be back later today with some actual content, gotta get to the mall!
Happy Hanukkah!

![]() Orgasms: Mutual is Good, Global is Gooder |
Yes, Donna Sheehan and Paul Reffell are a couple of tree-hugging peaceniks, but they have an idea just about anybody can get behind, so to speak. Let’s all contribute to Peace, Justice, and slowing Global Warming (although if we do our job, things should be heating up a little) by doing the deed* with someone we love this Sunday, which is the third annual Global Orgasm Day. As much as I’d love to give the gift of global orgasm myself, I’ll unfortunately be sitting this one out. I just can’t see falling in love with someone by Sunday afternoon. Don’t let that stop you though. Apparently the project was put in motion by Baring Witness (Naked & Not-For-Profit!), and is measured by Random Event Generators operated by The Global Consciousness Project at Princeton, of all places. Science, Sex, and Sunday – what a great combination, and it’s for the benefit of everyone. Maybe you could use that to motivate a less energetic partner: “but honey, it’s for world peace!”
*I got really stuck for a cute euphemism there, in spite of owning three slang dictionaries. Anybody have a suggestion?
