It’s likely to get you sued. In the ongoing legislative cat and mouse game that AT&T and the White House are playing to keep their ability to stick their eyes, ears, and noses into every aspect of your personal life, the Electronic Frontier Foundation is once again stepping up to bat for you. After AT&T bought enough dinners & prostitutes for politicians over the past several months, they eventually managed to get the bastards to grant them immunity for their part in illegally tapping our phones in the guise of protecting us. (Personally, my experiences with AT&T’s service and billing suggest I’ll be just fine without whatever protection they might be providing, thank you very much.) It’s a major show of dedication to protecting your constitutional rights on the part of the EFF; you might think about giving them some of your money , rather than giving it to those two senators running for president, one of whom voted for the bill after saying he would filibuster against it, the other of whom didn’t vote at all.
Propaganda You Could Believe In

In a pretty hip move, the American Legion has put a bunch of scans of vintage posters on line. I think that poster at left should be put back into production to get people to carpool a little. Just replace “Hitler” with “Halliburton”, and it’s good to go. There are literally hundreds of them, including gems like Housewives! SAVE WASTE FATS FOR EXPLOSIVES! Take them to your meat dealer. Or this one, showing three fists holding wrenches and guns to the sky and thanking God for being on our side. Grow Your Own BE SURE! has obvious Photoshop potential , as does this one, which is one finger away from being hilarious. On that note, save yourself the trouble; FreakingNews.com has a bunch here, and there was already a worth1000 contest. A little unrelated, but amusing: Marlboros for Mommies.

Thursday, September 18th, 2008Can Anyone Who Has Heard This Music Really Be A Bad Person?
I’ve been completely in Love with Kaki King since I first ran across the video of her performing Playing With Pink Noise (left). If she would let me, I would sit patiently at her feet just watching her play for several hours a day, wondering why I’ll never be that good. Okay…enough fanboy idol worship. Now go buy some of her music or check out this excellent post on BoingBoing, complete with an interview, performance, and some nicely selected links.

Thursday, September 18th, 2008Since we’re bailing out Merrill Lynch, AIG, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac et al, does that mean we get to go to board meetings now?
I’ve always believed that buying insurance was like giving someone money to protect you from something that’ll never happen so that they can not protect you when it does. Which is why I’m sitting here wondering if maybe the average working stiffs like you and me shouldn’t be a little more disturbed that we and our children and their children will be responsible for paying for the absurd (where’s your irrational exuberance now!?!?) behavior of the insurance and financial industries over the past decade or so. Will we get some kind of profit sharing when these industries start making money again? Or is this communism for the rich?
Han Hoogerbrugge’s Macabre Multimedia Musings

Somewhere in the dark recesses of my unconscious is a place where for all eternity I sit with Han Hoogerbrugge, sipping tea beneath a sky of time-lapse clouds, trying to ignore the subtle but relentless humming sound in the background, as he mindlessly, mechanically mimes something over and over. And I’ve never even met the guy. Hoogerbrugge does something I’ve always wanted to do; he takes a simple medium (usually Flash animation) and utilizing simple images, unusual atmospheric sounds, and a bizarre vision of worlds that may be, creates mesmerizing multimedia pieces that become an art form unto themselves. If you’ve never seen his work before, I recommend starting with his early interactive animation work like Modern Living or Nails, but he’s done other interesting interactive work as well, specifically, things like The Hotel, a surreal series that takes place in the anonymous space of an extraordinary and strange hotel.
