Why Are You Such An Idiot?

Or genius, as the case may be…

Find out here. Don’t have time for an idiot test (or afraid you’re too dumb to pass it)? Then maybe you can try your hand at guessing people’s accents. That first link is like “Simon Says” for the web, and harder than it looks. The second link is from Language Trainers’ Group, and frankly is a little weird. The woman from Florida didn’t sound very Floridian to me. And I was a moron with the northern European accents. Got a 28. I’d love to know other people’s scores. If you’d like to see someone who REALLY has her accents down, check out the YouTube clip of Amy Walker doing 21 accents in 2 1/2 minutes.

…and this JingleBabies CD is already driving me nuts.

Jingle Babies CD

…left until Christmas, and this collection of samples of baby sounds turned into Christmas carols is going to drive me nuts. If I don’t buy it now, I’ll forget about it until Christmas, when I’ll be saying to myself “damn, I wish I’d bought that JingleBabies CD, it would be really fun in this Xmas mix I’m making”. If I DO buy it now, when Christmas rolls around, I’ll be saying to myself “damn, what a waste of twelve bucks, this was really only funny for about ten seconds as an audio preview”. Decide for yourself. Listen to Silent Night, as sung by babies.

Kiss Me On The Back Porch Video

Or: call your album 49:00 because you were 20 in the 80′s

Not Paul Westerberg

This is not Paul Westerberg.
I just thought the hair captured
the essence of the post

The crazy $0.49 download of 49:00, the new release by Paul Westerberg got me thinking about his former band, the Replacements. Although I always admired them, I really never listened to much of the music they produced, and my Replacement fanboy friends all think I’m a poptard for saying I love the song “Kiss Me on the Bus”. To hell with my SnobPunk friends, I stand by my (occasionally valued) opinion that it’s one of the best songs to come out of the 80′s. To this day, I still don’t know what the lyrics really are, it’s just so crafted and so darn catchy that I don’t really care. Check out this embarrasingly 80′s YouTube clip of the song from Back Porch Videos, the dorky but way-ahead-of-its-time cable access program that was crewed and hosted by frighteningly New Wave high-school kids from Detroit. Learn more about Paul Westerberg’s 49:00 here, or buy it here.

Faces of Evil? Where’s the Bush-Cheney Edition?

Or maybe an evil corporate leader version?

Hans Weishäupl’s artistic project and exhibit Faces of Evil explores a concept well-summarized by Einstein’s oft-quoted statement that “The world is not threatened by evil people but by those who allow evil things to happen”. Weishäupl created uncanny images of several dictators by taking photographs of over 350 people from each dictator’s homeland, and creating a composite image using various software tools. The results are a thought-provoking reminder that we are usually, like it or not, equally responsible for the actions of our more evil leaders. Hey Hans, if you’re reading, I’m sure I speak for many when I say I’m looking forward to the Bush/Cheney edition!
