Thursday, October 23rd, 2008Anyone care to name names?
Would you kill the president
of the U.S. for this woman? |
I mean, in relation to a more recent president. The consistently witty Cracked.com has an hilarious piece called The 6 Most Utterly Insane Attempts to Kill a US President. Raising again the eternal question: why is it that they only seem to get the good guys? Which of course reminds me of when it first looked like Barack Obama had a chance as the Democratic candidate. I remember clearly the excitement of thinking “Wow. This is the country I remember growing up in. One that might actually think about electing a black president, or a candidate that offered hope instead of fear.” I also remember the thought that immediately followed, which was “Oh crap, get some security on the dude. They’re gonna try to kill him!” Well, if you believe what you read on sites with names like satansrapture.com (why are these sites always ALL IN CAPS?), Obama will, according to the Bible Codes, eventually be assassinated. This idea has been kicked around so much that back in March of this year there was even a rather sprawling exhibit at the Naomi Gates Gallery called The Assassination of Barack Obama, which, while implying the obvious, justified itself by claiming to explore the concept of character assassination as well. Let’s hope this bizarre part of the national psyche doesn’t express itself again; there are much better candidates. For getting shot, I mean.
Ian Gray for President

Friday, July 11th, 2008On the Internet, no-one knows you’re a dog.
I’ve been keeping this under wraps for some time because I didn’t want to look like a fool if things didn’t work out. This is going to startle some of you, but the campaign’s picking up a lot of momentum, so I thought I’d go public after being featured in the News3Online piece below. A special thanks to Diana for making so much of this happen…
Wouldn’t The Guy That DIDN’T Get Shot Down Be A Better Candidate?

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008Speaking the truth isn’t always so useful. The Dems need to be a little more republican if they want to win in November.
Only in politics can someone state a simple truth like Wes Clark’s remark that getting shot down as a fighter pilot doesn’t qualify you to be president, and have it dominate the news cycle for days. What this really highlights, in my opinion, is the fact that the Democrats either don’t really care if they win in November, or they haven’t learned a bloody thing from the past eight or so years. Get a message, Dems, and stick to it. Here’s a link to the GOP Playbook (PDF), if you need a primer. The DailyKos even has a searchable web-page version. Get it together, Obamaniacs, get it together. Slate has an insightful piece, The Grunt vs. the Flyboy, that sheds some light on what might lead Wes Clark to wander into such a major message blunder.
