The GOP wants you to meet Barack Obama – their way

John McCain may be a nearly invisible, doddering old fart (did I really just say may be?) but the GOP is showing a little youthful spring in its step with two new web sites they’ve launched. First, there’s MeetBarackObama.com, which has punchy little headlines for its anti-Obama “news items” like Ich Bin Ein Hypocrite. Perhaps much more clever is BarackBook.com, which mocks Obama’s actual FaceBook page by highlighting his connections with people like William Ayers and Marilyn Katz. Unfortunately for whoever these hip kids of the GOP are, their candidate is still doing more for the Obama campaign than anyone else just by speaking in public.

McCain = Bush = Court Date

Strong-arming 61-year-old librarians is not going to win the election, Mr. McCain.

You would think an old geezer like John McCain would be more sensitive to the needs of old ladies. Needs which don’t include being strong-armed by security for expressing your thoughts (link includes footage as well as story content). Carol Kreck, a 61-year-old librarian from Denver, was waiting in line to attend a McCain “town hall” meeting. At the behest of McCain’s security people, she was cited for trespassing and escorted away because she was carrying a sign that read “McCain = Bush”. She logically pointed out that if you’re a Republican who voted for Bush, why should you be offended by the sign? Kreck was told “You have two choices. You can keep your sign here and receive a ticket for trespassing, or you can remove the sign and stay in line and attend this town hall meeting.”. To her credit she accepted the ticket and a court date.

Wouldn’t The Guy That DIDN’T Get Shot Down Be A Better Candidate?

Speaking the truth isn’t always so useful. The Dems need to be a little more republican if they want to win in November.

Only in politics can someone state a simple truth like Wes Clark’s remark that getting shot down as a fighter pilot doesn’t qualify you to be president, and have it dominate the news cycle for days. What this really highlights, in my opinion, is the fact that the Democrats either don’t really care if they win in November, or they haven’t learned a bloody thing from the past eight or so years. Get a message, Dems, and stick to it. Here’s a link to the GOP Playbook (PDF), if you need a primer. The DailyKos even has a searchable web-page version. Get it together, Obamaniacs, get it together. Slate has an insightful piece, The Grunt vs. the Flyboy, that sheds some light on what might lead Wes Clark to wander into such a major message blunder.

Attack of the Obamacons

Are former neocons helping Obama’s campaign? Is the Republican party really a “dead rotting carcass”?

Hard to believe that the same Robert Novak who (drunkenly?) stormed off the set of CNN’s Inside Politics (video link) and who played a key role in the Valerie Plame scandal has written a piece about how Obamacons are threatening the McCain campaign. Thank you Bob, you’ve given me another opportunity to plug Obamamania!: The English Language, Barackafied. Former Bushie-turned-Obamacon Larry Hunter should be selected as Obama’s honorary campaign director for being on record as saying “The Republican Party is a dead rotting carcass with a few decrepit old leaders stumbling around like zombies in a horror version of ‘Weekend With Bernie,’ handcuffed to a corpse.”

More Obamemes…

Baracksploitation:
The practice among editors of putting only Barack Obama on the cover of their magazines.
Obama Self:
A tear-jerking cover of Eric Carmen’s “All By Myself” said to be recorded by Celine Dion and only released in the event Obama fails to receive the nomination.

Obama’s Beating McCain, but Losing to Bush

How many times during the election will Barack Obama reverse himself to get elected?

Granted, it’s a sticky strategic issue, but the Obama camp has released their official explanation for why Barack Obama supports the revised Protect America Act . Scorecard: Bush: 1, Obama’s Backbone: 0. On a positive note, Obama appears to be kicking McCain’s butt in the polls. Elsewhere, Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel more or less offers to be Obama’s running mate, and Slate announces the release of Obamamania!: The English Language, Barackafied
