Santogold is a good effort, but I'm not sure I'd listen to any of the tunes more than once. Hey, take a listen to Stepping Stone on Aimee Duffy's Rockferry. Perfect orchestration, tight beat, and some pretty soulful singing for a Welsh girl. I liked The Walkmen, You & Me, especially the Dylan-esque Seven Years of Holidays. Any media that "broadcasts," including satellite radio, has to pay the bills, so even the most outre Sirius channels become hackneyed in a few weeks. Start following the mashups, and one quickly becomes aware that the most popular stuff gets overplayed - it would win the award show, but the mashup geeks are already listening to something else. What we need are more sharp-eared cultural commentaries like yours that turn us on to the latest hit by a band we've never before heard of. So.... what are you listening to lately?
